codex (codices): accordian-folded books made from the bark fig trees upon which scribes
    drew figures and Mayan glyphs

glyph: a picture or symbol used to represent a word, sound, or syllable

peccary: an animal that is like a wild pig

pok-ol-pok: a Maya ball game played with a solid rubber ball in a large ball court

pyramid: a large, tall structure built to honor the Maya gods and/or rulers

stela (stelae): stone slab inscribed with glyphs and erected to honor important events in leaders' lives
