Mesoamerican Civilizations
Mayas and Incas
 
Long before any European explorers arrived in the Americas  there were advanced civilizations flourishing. Among these were the Mayas and the Incas. Both societies were hierarchical and based on agriculture. Religion played a big role in both civilizations. The people believed that their rulers had descended from the gods.
 
 

You will have the opportunity to study each of these civilizations, to contrast and compare, to understand the complex nature of an ancient culture and how belief systems influence a society's actions.
 

You will find activities given on each page. For each civilization choose at least 3 activities to complete. After exploring all of the pages and links complete the culmination activity. You may work with a partner to complete all activities.
