Inca Recreation

The Inca rulers forced their subjects to work as farmers, builders, artisans. The rulers would often move entire groups of people to another location in order to keep them busy. The commoners still had time for leisure festivities. They celebrated a large number of holidays. All of the Inca people had a work ethic. They did not enjoy being idle. If there wasn't work they invented work to do.

Many of the celebrations held by the Inca were to honor the gods for bringing rain or for a good harvest. Some celebrations were to honor the chieftains and rulers. They also celebrated after victories over their enemies in battle. The chieftains and rulers would sip chicha through a wooden tube (kind of like a straw). They might dance to the beat of drums with torches of straw.
