Inca Architecture

The capital city of the Inca empire was Cuzco. During the time of the Inca it was the richest city in the Americas with temples covered in gold plate.

Machu Picchu is located about 80 km from Cuzco high in the Andes mountains. Archaeologists think that it was probably a royal estate and religious retreat built between 1460 and 1470. . It was constantly being remodeled. Builders, attendants, planters, priests, artisans, and mamacunas probably lived there all the time.
