American Alligator
The alligator is a reptile that lives in the Florida Everglades. All gators have sharp teeth, strong jaws and a long body. The alligator can be found on land or in the water. When swimming, the body of the alligator is under water while its eyes are above the water. The alligator's eyes are on top of its head. This is so the alligator can see its pray while he is in the the water; however, its pray can't see him.
The alligator can grow to be 18 feet or longer. The average male weighs 450-550 pounds. The average female gator seldom weighs over 160 pounds.
