Expectations For University Supervisors

University supervisors must have teaching experience, Clinical Educator Training, and at least a Masters degree. The role of the University Supervisor is one of the most critical components in the entire teacher preparation process. University supervisors act as liaisons between and among the Internship Office, and school personnel and the interns.

  • Roles Of The University Supervisor
    • LIAISON: Serves as the connection (liaison) between the school personnel and the university.
    • EDUCATOR: Mentors interns and conducts seminars.
    • EVALUATOR: Observes and critiques teaching performances.
  • Expectations Of The University Supervisor
    • AS LIAISON
      • Confers with the Internship Office and Cooperating Teachers upon the course of action regarding the effectiveness of the internship assignment and exceptions to established college policies.
      • Arranges orientation meetings with Cooperating Teachers and confer with the Teacher Education Team to complete the internship assessment forms.
      • Elicits feedback from the Cooperating Teachers and school administrators during the semester.
      • Makes arrangements for conferences with the Teacher Education Team when appropriate.
      • Is cognizant of school programs and services that impact student learning.
      • Submits required semester documentation to the Internship Office.
    • AS MENTOR
      • Plans and conduct 3 - 5 seminars as part of the clinical experience.
      • Makes a MINIMUM of 5 visits to the classroom; three are formal observations.
      • Assists interns to analyze and reflect upon their educational experiences using current research and theory.
      • Assists interns to develop personal and professional goals that will foster professional attitudes and behaviors.
    • AS EVALUATOR
      • Assesses interns’ assignments and confers with the Teacher Education Team to prepare internship assessment forms.
      • Develops and completes Individual Development Plans with the Teacher Education Team for interns needing extra support. At the end of the semester completes an Exit Individual Development Plan.
