Grades

The College of Education (COE) recommendation for satisfactory completion of the practicum and internship requires both the Cooperating Teacher and university supervisor to render a positive assessment of a student’s final internship. Criteria for successful completion are based upon the requirements of the internship. The Cooperating Teacher and university supervisor confer and submit the final grade for the intern to the Internship Office.

Criteria for Satisfactory Final Grade
• Completion of all course objectives.
• Satisfactory teaching evaluations from the university supervisor and the Cooperating Teacher.
• Attendance and 100% participation at all seminars.
• Lesson plans and lesson plan revisions are consistently submitted to the Cooperating Teacher to meet all deadlines. The Cooperating Teacher and university supervisor evaluate and determine that the lesson plans and presentations are satisfactory.
• Punctual, 100% classroom attendance is required; any absence must be made up.
• Satisfactory completion of all assignments.
• All materials are returned to the Cooperating Teacher.

Criteria for Unsatisfactory Final Grade
• All objectives identified in course objectives are not met.
• All criteria identified for satisfactory final grade are not met.
• Intern has received written notification of unsatisfactory behavior.

Criteria for Incomplete Grade
• Development of an Individual Development Plan
• Recommendation of Exit Individual Development Plan
• Incomplete Grade form signed by appropriate parties

Criteria for Development of an Individual Development Plan (IDP)
The purpose of the IDP is to formalize support for an intern that is focused on areas that need improvement. Prior to developing an IDP, the supervisor and Cooperating Teacher should informally mentor and support the efforts of the intern.

At the four-week checkpoint, the university supervisor, in collaboration with the classroom teacher will assess for the intern’s demonstration of sufficient mastery of skills and professional attitudes necessary for taking full classroom responsibility. A satisfactory performance is mandatory in all seven domains of the Florida Performance Measurement System. A rating of “needs improvement” in any area requires that an Intern Development Plan (IDP) be generated by the Block 5 Coordinator(s), university supervisor, and Cooperating Teacher. The team, in a planned meeting, will share the IDP with the intern. The IDP will specify a remediation plan of action with a timeline for its completion and recommended support for the intern. For additional information, see “Policy on Remediation and/or Removal in Final Internship” .
