Welcome from the Dean

On behalf of the faculty, students and staff in the College of Education it is my pleasure to invite you to view our website. You will quickly learn that we provide a wide range of quality undergraduate and graduate programs to serve the needs of every student. We pride ourselves on excellent teaching, state-of-the art technology classrooms, low student/faculty ratios, extensive partnerships with school districts and human service agencies, well-supervised field based education and internship experiences, and new international programs.

It is also important to know that the College of Education was founded on July 1, 1999 and is looking forward to an exciting and dynamic 21st century. In 1974 the University of South Florida established a branch campus in Fort Myers. The largest program at the branch campus was education and the largest number of students in elementary education. When Florida Gulf Coast University opened in the fall of 1997, the USF education programs were transitioned to the new university. Since 1997 we have energetically redesigned all education programs to reflect world class quality in research, theory, and practice. This means that College of Education graduates are superbly positioned and prepared to address the professional challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

Sincerely,

Larry Byrnes, Dean College of Education
