Teacher’s Guide for Struggling Readers ~ K-12 ~

At
some point in their career, most classroom teachers have worked with
struggling readers. They
have often searched their bag of tricks for strategies to help their
students become more proficient.
It’s a difficult and very complicated task.
Our project was to give you helpful, practical information and
sources to expand your bag of tricks. The
participating teachers have a range of experience from kindergarten to
high school in regular and special education classrooms.
With over 64 collective years of classroom experience, these
teachers’ perspectives set the criteria for the development of this
website. Each
module will have the following components:
definition of terms, introduction, background information,
teacher friendly strategies, assessment tools, teacher resources, and
an annotated list of relevant links. We
hope you find this information helpful as we all strive to make every
child a successful reader!

This
website was developed collaboratively during the summer session of May/June
2002 and the spring session of March 2003 as a technology project by graduate students in RED 6657(Reading Disabilities/Learning Disabilities),
as a service learning project by
Amanda Smith, CIS student, and Dr.
Linda Ray,
College of Education. We hope you have enjoyed this website!
