Responsible for the preparation and training of school leaders through teaching, research, and service to the education community.
Director of District Operations, The School District of Lee County, Florida (1995-1997)
Responsible for assisting the district superintendent with the daily operations of the school district, coordination of the superintendent’s cabinet, school board relations, and special initiatives. Also supervised the Department of Accountability, Planning and Educational Equity and the Department of Internal Auditing.
Director of Middle Level Education and Adult Education, The School District of Lee County (1993-1995)
Supervised the operations of twelve middle schools and the adult education program of the school district. Supervised the work of the middle school principals and the coordinators of Adult and Community Education, and was involved in the development of curriculum and instructional programs.

Worked under the direction of the district superintendent and was responsible for the curriculum and instructional program in a district which served more than 45,000 students. Also responsible for the daily operation of 62 schools (K-12), 4 special centers, and 2 vocational-technical schools.

Worked under the direction of the district superintendent and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the school district serving 34,000 students in grades K-12 and an additional 4000 students in a post-secondary vocational-technical school. Was involved in the development and implementation of school district policies, budget, and instructional and management programs.
Deputy to the Secretary of Education, Commonwealth of Virginia (1982-1985)
Served as an advisor to the secretary of education and the Governor on matters of education policy. Responsibilities included oversight of public (K-12) and higher education in Virginia, and several state-supported cultural institutions. Involved in the development of state education policies and guidelines, and the development of program budgets for all state education agencies and institutions of higher education. Worked closely with the state legislature, executive branch agencies, and education constituent groups.
