1. How do I enroll?

2. Do I have to be admitted before I start taking classes?
No, you can take up to 12 hours as a non-degree seeking student.

5. Are there any face-to-face meetings?
Some faculty in the program offer optional live meetings. Anyone
enrolled in EME 6936 in the fall 2001 can meet with Dr. Engel
in BHG 111 on Tuesdays from 5 PM - 7:30 PM.
6. Who are the faculty in the program?
Bill Engel - computer programming and web design
Cecil Carter - curriculum & instruction
Joyce Honeychurch - social foundations, learning principles
Gil Hutchcraft - research and measurment
Andrew McCooney - research and measurment
Adjuncts teach some of the courses.
7. What is WebCT?
All 12 courses in the program are delivered online through WebCT
which offers many features including: chat rooms, bulletin posting,
and student home pages.
To register for WebCT:
- Go to http://garnet.fgcu.edu
- Click on Create my WebCT
- Enter the required information and click CONTINUE.
- Enter a User Name and Password you just created.
- Click on Add course.
- Scroll down to the course, and click on it.
- Click on REGISTER. Do not enter user name and password.
- Click on RETURN to myWebCT.
- Click on the course title.
Some professors will give you a direct link to the their WebCT
page.
8. What is an electronic portfolio?
Students are expected to develop an electronic portfolio and
post it on a web server. The portfolio describes the accomplishments
of students in the program.
9. Do I have web space to place my web pages?
You have web space on the student server. Go to http://student.fgcu.edu
for directions on how to download an FTP program and how to move
files to your web server.
Space is provide on the COE server as well. Contact Dr. Engel,
if you want space on the COE server.
10. How do I apply for graduation?
You can download a graduation application in PDF format. You
must fill it out and send it by mail or fax. Graduation

11. How do I communicate?
Please activate your student e-mail account at http://condor.fgcu.edu

12. What is the Special Project Class?
Students in the program develop a special project that applies
technology to an educational setting. Students are encouraged
to sign up for this near the end of the program. Faculty approval
of a project must be obtained. Students are expected to implement
a technology project in an educational setting that demonstrates
their abilities to take a leadership role in technology. Examples
of special projects range from implementing an Internet-based
classroom unit to the development of a school district educational
technology plan.
13. Are there national standards for educational technology?
Yes, check out the
ISTE standards matrix that shows how the ETOL program meets
national standards.
14. How can I provide input into the program?
An online web
page is provided for feedback from the ETOL advisory group and students.
Please visit this site, and provide your input.
15. What conference should I attend?
Florida Educational Technology

16. How can I keep from mixing up the EME 6936's and EME 6930's?
Be sure to look at the CRN number and/or the title.
17. Do I have to take the courses in a particular sequence?
No. Although you should note that Research, C&I, and Special
Projects are offered every semester.
18. How many courses should I take each semester?
If you are a full-time student, you could take three courses
per semester. If you are teaching full-time, it would be best
to take two courses during the Fall and Spring.
19. How long has this program been around, and how many students
are in the program?
The program started in 1997 as a face-to-face educational technology
program. In 2000, the program offered courses 100% online. There
are approximately 20 students in the program. We expect the program
to grow. We may have to place a limit on enrollment, so sign up
FAST!
20. Are there other programs like this?
Check out USF,
but they are not 100% online.
21. How much is the tuition?
In 2001, $163.94 for in-state, and $571.10 for out-of-state per
credit hour. This fee is subject to change and is for graduate
credit hours.
22. Do I have to learn how to program a computer?
Yes, but you do not have to become an expert computer programmer.
Right now we have two computer programming courses: Visual
BASIC, and Web Programming. VB is an easy language that
involves pull-down menus. We use VBscript to make interactive
web pages.
23. How do I keep in touch?
We have a listserv system that you can use to send and receive
e-mails to members of the group. You may subscribe by clicking
here.
