News for Students and Announcements

1. Beginning in the spring of 2009, all students will need to purchase a one-time subscription to LiveText. This can be done at LiveText.com

It is needed for our College of Education accreditation system. All classes will use LiveText to grade specific key assessments that will be tied to the Florida State Educational Leadership Standards.

Be sure to indicate that you are a student at Florida Gulf Coast University.

2. Our program has obtained “conditional approval” from the State DOE. We anticipate “full approval” after responding to a few minor issues from our state review. All students who began the program in the fall of 2008, will need to complete the new state program. Please work with your advisor to insure that your Planned Program of Study meets the new standards.

3. If you are planning to graduate this semester, you need to do the following:

*   Submit an application to graduate to your advisor during the first two weeks of the semester.

*   Submit two copies of your electronic portfolios to your advisor any time during the semester but no later than two weeks before classes are completed. Then contact your advisor to set a time to present and defend your portfolios to the faculty.

4. The state of Florida has adopted the six ISLLC standards and added four new standards for a total of 10 standards for Educational Leadership certification. Students beginning the Educational Leadership program in the fall of 2005 will be required to use the new 10 state standards for their final Learning Portfolio. The faculty will revise the portfolio requirements to integrate the new standards.

5. Student who began the program in Educational Leadership prior to the fall of 2005 will have the option of using the old requirements for the Learning portfolio that uses the original six ISLLC standards, or they may use the new 10 Florida state standards.
