The Crystal Awards Competition recognizes the most innovative and outstanding K-12 multimedia-based instructional, distance learning, and technology-based projects for 2002-2003. The 2003 Crystal Awards will select a winner in each of the three categories:
  • K-12 Instructional Multimedia  Projects

In previous competitions, submissions for the K-12 Instructional Multimedia category mostly come from institutions like public television and other non-profit organizations; and for Distance Learning category from higher education institutions. Technology-based project is a new category created for independent consultants, contractors and producers who work with K-12, higher education and industry-based clients.
Eligibility for the award is limited to projects that include diverse multimedia and/or distance learning components. Also, the projects must be instructional in nature, designed for any age level, and have been produced and implemented after January 1, 2002. Entrants must demonstrate that all copyrights employed in the projects have been purchased or acquired by the producing agency.

The DDL Crystal Award Committee and its designated representatives will judge the submitted entries with the following criteria:

  • Innovative and creative use of the medium
  • Instructional value and relevance
  • Instructional strategy
  • Quality of production
  • Evidence of successful utilization and implementation
  • Evidence of achievement of goals and objectives
An entry may only be submitted to one category. Each entry must be accompanied with a completed entry form and fee ($95) plus supporting materials and resources. Deadline for entry submission is June 30, 2003. Awards are presented to the producing agency.
