If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then PDA-ESE has the answer for you!

Through the collaborative efforts of the Bureau of Exceptional Education and Student Services and the Bureau of Educator Certification, the Florida Department of Education proudly announces the availability of a new online professional development program. Professional Development Alternatives for Exceptional Student Educators (PDA-ESE) utilizes online training modules and local facilitators to provide instruction in the seven major ESE competency areas that were established in July 2002. Appropriate for professionals working in general or special education, the PDA-ESE program is designed with the busy educator in mind. The modules combine quality online instruction for self-paced study with local support, ongoing communication, and classroom-related assessment tasks to ensure successful mastery of the competencies.

The seven modules available through PDA-ESE are:

  • Foundations of Exceptional Student Education
  • Assessment and Evaluation
  • Instruction Practices in ESE
  • Language Development and Communication Skills
  • Positive Behavior Support
  • Transition
  • Interpersonal Interactions and Participation

Through the coordination of the FDLRS HRD Coordinating Unit, local FDLRS Associate Centers, and the Florida Center for Interactive Media, the PDA-ESE modules are currently being offered statewide. Six of the modules are worth 60 in-service points (or the equivalent of 3 credit hours for those teaching out-of-field), and one is worth 30 points. For information regarding local availability of the modules, please contact your FDLRS Associate Center at http://www.fdlrs.org/ or you may view information on the PDA-ESE program and the steps to certification by going to the http://www.pda-ese.org/ website.
