Eunsook [Eunny] Hyun is Full Professor of Curriculum Studies and the Dean of the College of Education at FGCU.
Dr. Hyun holds Ph.D in Curriculum & Instruction focusing on Curriculum Studies from the Penn State University (1995). She earned M.A. (1987) and B.S. (1985) in Early Childhood Education from Duksung Women's University, Seoul, S. Korea. She also completed the Higher Education Administration Leadership Training at Harvard University (2012).
Dr. Hyun’s over 160 scholarly activities are published in books, peer-reviewed research articles, conference proceedings, and keynote speeches in various areas including Postmodern curriculum theorizing; transdisciplinary higher education curriculum; early childhood education, teacher education; critical pedagogy; gender studies; bilingual education; teacher reflectivity and multiple/multiethnic perspective-taking; inquiry-oriented reflective supervision; computer technology and young children; environmental education for young children; higher education curriculum and assessment; multiculturalism in higher education institutions; higher education academic deans’ responsibilities in students’ academic success; transdisciplinary interfaces in the life sciences; and minority faculty recruitment and retention. Her books include Transdisciplinary Interfaces and Innovation in the Life Sciences (2014); Teachable Moments: Re-conceptualizing Curricula Understandings - Studies in the Postmodern Theory of Education (2006); and Making Sense of Developmentally and Culturally Appropriate Practice (DCAP) in Early Childhood Education (1998), published by Peter Lang. At present, Dr. Hyun’s scholarship focuses on transdisciplinary curriculum transformation in higher education academic affairs. In 2012, at the international level, she was recognized as a Founding Fellow for the Academy of Transdisciplinary Learning & Advanced Studies by the ATLAS. In 2014, she received the ATLAS Basarab Nicolescu Transdisciplinary Science & Engineering Award. It was the first time given to a scholar in the field of education.
Prior to becoming the Dean of College of Education at FGCU, she served as Dean of Charter College of Education at the California State University, Los Angeles (2013-2015), Associate Provost of Internationalization of Academic Affairs at the University of Massachusetts, Boston (2008-2013), and Department Chair of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Massachusetts, Boston (2007-2008).
Dr. Hyun was one of the FGCU founding faculty members for the establishment of the College of Education. She is currently serving as Dean for the College.
